Elvis-ology

.
Update on Elvis: at the sleepover, I polled the mothers of the other 8-year-olds to see if they had educated THEIR daughters about pop culture icons from the 50's, and they all acted like that was a stupid question. Then it turned out that they were just ASSUMING that their kids knew who Elvis was, because, c'mon, who doesn't know who Elvis is?

Long story short, my daughter will be spending part of Thanksgiving break watching Blue Hawaii or whatever else constitutes a proper education in Elvis-ology.

I'm taking votes: please vote for which Elvis movie I should make my daughter watch...I mean...share with my daughter.

I have never seen an Elvis movie in my life. Just a data point to add to your ongoing quest for mastery of the intergenerational culture waves.

Your data point counts for 150,000 Everyman votes. I'm thinkin' not too many of the lawyerly-type were big on Elvis. I certainly was/am not. I gotta see which way the faux-hip hawt mommas vote. Yes, this is my newest obsession. Yes, I shall reign supreme as a pre-eminent intergenerational cultural scholar.

Lilo and Stitch! Lilo is a huge Elvis fan. Doh. I forgot about the Lilo-Elvis link. Credit goes to my hubby who instantly recalled the connection.

My daughter --> Disney
Disney --> Lilo and Stitch
Lilo --> Elvis references

Ergo: today's Disney generation should have a passing familiarity with the name, at least.

That's enough for me. I guess I just wanted some contemporaneous relevancy. My kid has thus been spared losing 2 hours of her precious girlhood to the viewing of Blue Hawaii. And I'm quite pleased about that!

This matter is now settled.
